Back in Town and Back to Prizes

OK, so you might have thought that I've dropped off the face of the earth, but know that I'm still here, and I am back from traveling for a while. The tutorial I was going to post this morning sadly I was having too much fun coloring and I totally forgot to stop and scan in the steps, so I have to re-do it for the weekend, but it will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile, to celebrate that I'm back in town for a bit I want to offer a prize. Please leave a comment on this post stating:

1. How do you use copics
2. Why do you like them?

or, if you don't use Copics,

1. Why do you want to try them out? What are the things that you've heard about them that makes them sound so great?

I will randomly choose a winner on Monday at Noon. One winner will receive a free Sketch Set, a value of over $70!! (Actual set may vary from photo) Please make sure you leave a valid e-mail address for me to contact you at. Contest open only to North America.

Thanks for leaving a comment, and good luck winning!

I use them to color but my favorite use is airbrushing. You don't have to do light wispy airbrushing...the gorgeous colors allow you to layer and layer and get rich, vibrant almost screen print looks. LOVE my copics.

Hi Marianne...I do have a number of Copics but am still very much a newbie. I have usually used TomBow markers to watercolour stamped images and was bound and determined not to get caught up in the Copic craze. Did it work? Nope! I made the mistake of buying "just a couple" and fell in love. Sigh! I so like being able to colour stamped images on white paper instead of the yellow look of watercolour paper. I so like that I can take them anywhere. I so like how one can easily blend with these markers. I so like that colouring with Copics is sooooo much fun. I have taken one class and bookmarked each and every one of your tutorials to teach me. Started to note your tutorials before actually purchasing a Copic marker. Do I like these markers. No, I LOVE THESE MARKERS!!!! Okay, that sounds a little over the top, but I am truly hooked. LOL!

Thanks so much for sharing your talent, Marianne.

I use Copics to colour my images, spray fabric for hangings, colour embellishments, etc. I like them because they blend on their own. I don't have to use gamsol or anything other than my Copics. I like them because when (not if) I go over the lines I can get the colour to back up and go where it should. I like all the colours they come in. I like the shape and feel. I like the quality. Thanks for all the info you give us and this chance to win some best beloveds.

Welcome back! I am very new to Copic markers and only own 20 plus the blender pen. I decided to try them because of all the rave reviews and the amazing, beautiful end results. Informational, easy to understand, and step by step instructional blogs like yours gave me the confidence to invest in the markers. I still have a long way to go artistically and need/want many more colors to achieve
results even close to yours, but I can see my future potential. Thanks for the chance to win.

Welcome back...missed you! I love Copics...being a very new user. Still saving to get more. My DH started with on them for my birthday (little did he know!). I love coloring with them so my image matches my designer paper, and I love to use them to color ribbon to match too. Love that. Would love to increase my Copic marker collection! Thanks!

Welcome Back Marianne!! Wow...what do I love about Copics!?! Hmmmm...I think it would be easier to tell you what I don't like about them which is nothing. I have only been stamping for 3 months and in doing all of my research I had to have Copics from the very beginning! I love the blending capabilities of them and love using them on embellishment. I have a new airbrush on my Christmas wish list!! Thanks for the chance to win!!

Glad you are back but wish you were here teaching a class right now! I just took my first Copic class last weekend and loved loved it. I have a few of the Copics but do not have enough to make a light, dark, middle, and light combo.I would love to color like the rest of the guys that have been doing it for sometime. The reason I really like them is because of the lighting you can create on the subject. Thank you for the tips you give cause now I can actually apply them to my card and scrapbooking coloring. Also Thanks for a chance to win.

I LOVE using my Copics. I have used them on original sketches for my cards, I've used the on cut outs fromt the Cricut, I've used them on Grungepaper roses - my latest obsession! I've used Copics on shapes or embellishments I want to change the color - brads, paper flowers, small cut outs I don't like the color so I add another to change it to fit whatever I'm working on. Every day I find something else I could use my Copics on. I've never considered myself an artist, but using Copics (since May) has boosted my artistic confidence and helped me create cards and all sorts of paper crafts I never thought I could or would make!

Anything I have seen posted that was colored with the Copics, it is just amazing the color! I have put off buying, and haven't seen them in any of the stores I shop for my supplies. I am so anxious to try them out and can't wait for my first set. Thanks for the opportunity to win your set offered!

I use mine mostly for stamping and making cards. I *LOVE* them. I had some prismacolors and they were so stinky and you can't refill them. These look nicer and fit easier in your hand and have the color #'s on the lid and they don't roll around on your desk! I love how they blend and don't pill your paper like water markers. I like knowing I am using artist quality supplies.

I love them all, but I do not have enough time to play. I love the way you can blend with the sketches and color solid. Before I used Tombows and you could not get a nice pretty solid color w/o putting a hole in the paper. I love them! A girl can never have enough Copics, but I'm working on my collection! I have Copic Ciao markers and love them. I haven't tried the Sketch Markers yet but went with the Ciao as they were a little more affordable for my budget. I love the color saturation you get with them. They really make my cards come alive. I neer got that kind of saturation with what I was using before and it was either the Copic markers or I was going to get Prismacolor pencils but saw more and more people on Splitcoaststampers were using Copic markers. I was sold on them and have two sets of 36 and I want to buy more. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

Welcome back Marianne. You were missed. I started out with the light grey, light blue and blender Copics...you know, just for shading stamped images and give them depth. Then I got a few more, and realized that I needed the in-between colors to shade properly, and the whole thing snowballed from there. I now have about 80 and needing more. I especially love how you can shade and blend the colors without leaving streaks like most markers do, and how many colors there are with the different tones and intensity within. That's something I have not found in other coloring systems. They are pricey, but well worth it. My 6-year old granddaughter cannot understand why I won't let her color her fridge pictures with them!

I recently got my first 3 sketch markers that I ordered from Papertrey Ink but have not used them yet..All of the blogs that I visit on a regular basis have posts using the markers and the cards they make using these markers are awesome!!!! The only thing keeeping me from buying these markers are my finances. I hope this will change soon and I will be able to purchase a few more or maybe an entire set. Just maybe I will get lucky and win a set........

Jen said...

Honestly, I've wanted to try Copics but they just haven't worked into my craft budget yet. And I know that once I buy one set (or a small handful) to try I will want them all. I love the wide variety of colors, the way the blender can be used to blend two colors or remove color to add highlights.
And I have to admit Copics has the best colors on the market! Your pastel shades really are so soft and subtle.

Thank you for this opportunity to start my collection.

So disappointing. I scoured the internet and read everything I could about them. Then I bid on a set on ebay and WON! They arrived last week and I can hardly sleep I am playing with them every day. Welcome back! I was introduced to Copics in May of 2008 and bought 3 different colors and started using them. I used those three markers and was never satisfied with the results - my work never looked like what I had been shown and seen in my searches after meeting the infamous Copics. A few months later I bought a few more and kept trying with poor results (I had not found your blog and tutorials yet). I kept buying one or two at a time til I had built up to 10 or 15 still not getting the shadows and color gradiations so all my work was still lifeless - but pretty! I had all but given up and went back to coloring with watercolor pencils at this point for depth and dimension - losing our jobs in August of 2008 also helped to my switch. In March of 2009 my local (at the time) stamp shop announced it was going out of business (a month after I found it) and that Jen DelMuro would be teaching her last Copic workshops in April - I knew I had to go - and I was fortunate that the six colors she recommended for the class I had 5 of (still unemployed at this time) and all I had to do was buy 1. I spent those couple hours with Jen in that class and BAM, my eyes were now open and I had a new outlook on the Copics. Since then I have found your blog, tutorials and many others that have helped me along the way and I've even been honored enough to share my knowledge (which is still limited compared to a lot of people) with new scrappers I meet and pass along the love of Copics to them. At this point I am dying to get my hands on new Copics as we've only been back to work for a couple months and some of what I have are finally drying out - another reason that I am a Copic only user now as they last forever! Thank you so much for keeping this blog fun, interesting and most importantly educational..............and, thanks for a chance to win some new friends!!!

Why do I use/love copic markers? For starters they are the only markers that play well together for me. I love how they blend and do not leave those ugly marker streaks. I had given up on using markers until a friend let my play with her Copics, I have fallen in love!!!!!

Hi Marianne

Welcome back. Great to hear from you again.
1. How do you use copics

I use my copics to color stamped images for card making. I have some ciao.
2. Why do you like them?
I like them because they blend beautifully, colors are bright.

I like them enough to registered to a copic class certification.

Thanks for giving us a chance to win these

Hi Marianne, I've just gotten my first set of markers and just starting to practice with them. I've seen some gorgeous cards using them. I LOVE the way they blend so easily. A friend of mine has used them and when she showed another stamper the card, the other gal said she didn't like it because it was too professional! She wants people to know that she made it and for it to look handmade. That's why I like them so much...they look professional!

Thanks for the chance to win more.

I have a fair collection of Ciao and Sketch Copics (over 100 but nowhere near all that I want!) and have been practicing when I can. I used them to color the House Mouse Halloween images I made for the kiddies. I have to admit they came out very well - much better than I can do with pencils or regular markers. I like the ability Copics give you to get several colors from one marker simply by going over and over to deepen the color.

Copic markers are the best ever, they even color metal. They are so blendable and the work looks so professional. Thanks for your lessona and hints, Gail

Welcome back, Marianne! I use my Copics all the time to color stamped images. Lately though, I've been experimenting with using them for underpaintings in my colored pencil drawings. I love them for their vibrant colors, even laydown, and superior quality. They truly are the best markers I've ever used.

I love my Copics, I used use Prisma colors and while I love them I kept hearing about Copics and decided I need to try them. Wow! I have never seen a marker be so vibrant and blendable, and with none of those marker lines. I use my mostly for coloring in stamped images, but have also used them for drawings and other craft projects. I know they are expensive, but they are well worth the cost and last a good long time. I'm hoping to add to my collection this Christmas...or maybe Monday if I win this give away!

I love Copics. Before I started buying them, I would drool over the artwork I'd see done by so many other people in love with Copics. The blending - sometimes appearing almost 3d! Now I have, I think, a little more than half of the Sketch markers, buying ten or twenty at a time, as well as all the Spicas. I like to color stamped images, though I'm still a rank novice - trying to soak up as many tutorials as I find online from you & other gifted/talented/sharing folks. I also have an airbrushing kit, plus the papercrafting video, & plan on trying that real soon.

Hi Marianne. I use copic markers almost exclusively now. I love them so much! I have tried to color with other markers; both water based and alcohol based but I was never happy with the results. They didn't blend at all. I almost didn't even bother to try with copic markers once I heard of them because I didn't think they'd be any different. I'm so glad I did try them though because they are so different! I can blend them! They make me feel like a true artist.

Great to have you back, I know I cannot win this set, but wanted to answer your questions after all!
I like them because of the way you can colour with them - the paper does not tear, and you have a free movement - they are unlike the water colour markers - I wish I could have more colours to match my Stampin-up colours, but at last, it may never happen - I picked up the ciao and now am on my way to collect the sketch! which I like for the colour spread! HUgs always!

Oh my... once I bought my first copic, I was addicted!! I always loved coloring when I was a child and using my copics on my cards is just an adult way of playing and having fun!! I've learned alot from your tutorials and try to practice the theory. I just wish there were classess closer to the Philadelphia area - I'd love to go to a hands-on one. It would make a difference. Shading without streaks is a weakness for me yet, but I've come across something that works well for me now - I color the image with watercolor pencil and then use a copic as the 'water'... so for now, that technique seems to help me achieve the light-to-dark shading that I sometimes need. I've found copics at very reasonable prices on a few websites so I am slowly adding to my inventory. I would love to win your blog candy! So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that random-org likes me this time around! Thank you so much for your time and sharing your talent.

Welcome back, Marianne! What a great drawing! I use my Copics for most if not of all my coloring now which is anything I stamp and most of my sketches. I love Copics because of their blending capabilities and the fact that they don't leave brush marks. I have to say my favorite benefit is the fact that you can color with lighter colors over dark colors and that you can push ink back in the lines when you make a mistake. I wish I had every color but the price is somewhat limiting. I think they are worth every penny...it's just that I don't have that many pennies! :)

Hey Marianne,

Glad you're back (I keep tabs on you via your Twitter feeds :-) ).
Let's see what do I use my copics for... ummmm everything, lol.
Besides being my go to medium for coloring, I use them to color my flowers, my brads and ribbon. Love to use the broad tip for doing a quick edge on a panel or card. Also found the earth tones work awesome to fix scratches/dents on furniture/wood trim :-). Hubby stole a couple of my dark grays & black to use on his tank/airplane models and I think he even tried them on some of his gun parts (he does gunsmithing I think is what it's called).
I've also used them on fabric... in short pretty much on everything :-).

I like that you can find any color you need, whether you prefer pastels or royal colors. Besides more of a variety of colors of markers, I really want to purchase an air brush system. Hey there Marianne,

I found your blog though looking up copic markers! I have not tried Copic markers yet, heck, I just bought my first set of prismacolors at an art and crafts store very far from where I live, and using them really wowed me haha. I can imagine that copic would bring my work to a whole another level. I have been doing a lot of life drawings, and much recently the coloring. My family, and friends have been very supportive of my drawings. They're impressed by the apples I drew with my first prismacolor haha. Copic markers are great, because they have a replaceable nib, they very blendable, also they are refillable. So, even though they are expensive. Copic is a great life long investment.
So anyways, thank you for your great site, and your tutorials!
Thank you very much for this opputunity!

I must say that I love your blog. So very informative. Thanks. As for the copic sketch markers, well they are the best art investment that I have made. I love to draw and also I love stamping. They blend so beautifully and the colors are awesome. I took a class at a craft store not knowing what the result would be. I had no idea how different they would be from all the other markers I have. What a pleasant surprise. I haven't used anything else since that day. Like they say the rest is history. lol

Welcome home! I absolutely love copics. I use them for coloring cards and they are so addicting. I am patiently waiting on some replacements on an order that Fed Ex claims to have left on my front porch which I never got - grrr!!! Have never ever lost anything delivered on my porch before or since - makes me suspicious. At any rate, thank you for giving away a set - that is so generous of you! Here is my email in the event that I am selected. Happy Fall y'all.

Welcome back! I have a combination of ciao and sketch and I love them both. I think I have around 120 all combined. I love to color my images with them because I can blend them so easily without leaving harsh lines. they are so juicy and easy to use if you have a good knowledge about them. I can custumaze my embellishment too. That's another reason I bought them, they are expensive but they are worth it. I would love to add more to my collection. Thanks for the opportunity to play.

I've never used Copics, but I've always wanted to try them. I drool every time I see your posts. The colors are so vibrant and they make all your projects just pop off the page. The blending ability seems endless. I would be in Copic Heaven to try them!
