Back in Town and Back to Prizes

OK, so you might have thought that I've dropped off the face of the earth, but know that I'm still here, and I am back from traveling for a while. The tutorial I was going to post this morning sadly I was having too much fun coloring and I totally forgot to stop and scan in the steps, so I have to re-do it for the weekend, but it will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile, to celebrate that I'm back in town for a bit I want to offer a prize. Please leave a comment on this post stating:

1. How do you use copics
2. Why do you like them?

or, if you don't use Copics,

1. Why do you want to try them out? What are the things that you've heard about them that makes them sound so great?

I will randomly choose a winner on Monday at Noon. One winner will receive a free Sketch Set, a value of over $70!! (Actual set may vary from photo) Please make sure you leave a valid e-mail address for me to contact you at. Contest open only to North America.

Thanks for leaving a comment, and good luck winning!

Thanks for the chance to win.

Welcome back! What a fabulous prize!! I have loved the "normal" coloring and shading with my Copics, but since taking Colleen's class online I am seeing just how much more I can learn!!! LOL I just love the fact that they can blend so well and that I can go back to an image long after it's dried and re-work it!!!

I have never used the copic markers. I have been scared to use them, but I have seen some really neat Tildas colored with them. After seeing what you have done using them, I want to try them out. Hopefully I can learn to do well by continuing to watch your blog.

The only copic markers I've tried are the ciao because I bought a few when they were on sale online. We don't have any local store to view the colors more in detail. I use them on every card that I can (when it calls for red and green as these are the only colors I have) I love the ones that I do have. My favorite thing about them is that they blend without peeling my paper. And I love the rich colors also. Welcome back. My email is heygorgeous3@aol.com

Welcome back! I used to be hooked on Prismas and Gamsol but once I tried Copics, I haven't pulled out the prismas! I love Copics because they blend so well. I have a small amount of them but I hope to build my stash soon!

Hey there Marianne,

I found your blog though looking up copic markers! I have not tried Copic markers yet, heck, I just bought my first set of prismacolors at an art and crafts store very far from where I live, and using them really wowed me haha. I can imagine that copic would bring my work to a whole another level. I have been doing a lot of life drawings, and much recently the coloring. My family, and friends have been very supportive of my drawings. They're impressed by the apples I drew with my first prismacolor haha. Copic markers are great, because they have a replaceable nib, they very blendable, also they are refillable. So, even though they are expensive. Copic is a great life long investment.
So anyways, thank you for your great site, and your tutorials!
Thank you very much for this opputunity!

I love my Copics. I have been using them for illustrations, simply coloring the art. I'm slowly learning them and have a limited range of hues. I hope to get up to skill levels I've seen other artists at.

I like them because they go on so well, thanks to the Sketch's brush and square nibs. I also like how they don't smell all that strongly. The range of colors and the ability to mix them to create custom colors is something else I like. Lastly, they can be cost efficient over the long term, what with the refills and replaceable nibs.

1. How do you use copics?

Well... I haven't used my markers lately, due to work and school. But I mainly used them to color in stamped images. I am trying to get my boyfriend's brother into them, he likes to do Graffitti Art.

2. Why do you like them?

I can blend and shade with them. Plus use them as with the air can and spray... can't think of what it is called.

For the longest time I would look at images that were colored in and could not figure out for the life of me how they did it. These images were so vibrant and there were no lines! I knew they had to be markers and I tried all kinds to no avail, nothing gave me the same pizzazz, then I found out about alcohol markers. I have done a lot of research on the different brands and I have decided that I want to invest in the copic sketch. I have been so overwhelmed with all the different colors that I have no idea were to start because I will only be able to collect a few at a time.

Thanks for this opportunity to start my next passion.

I adore copic markers for a lot of reasons. Primarily I draw better than I paint but have found that markers tend to make my artwork look streaky, but I don't have the necessary hand control to duplicate a smooth color or blend with paints. Copics allow me to layer the color and keep a uniform flow. I like how it sweeps out of the barel and on to the paper, as if it were paint instead of solvent and pigment. I don't get nearly enough time with them and hope with my impending "Employment Reimagning" that I will get more time to play with them between interviews.

I'm red1332 (at) gmail (dot) com. Thanks so much!

Hi Marianne,
Welcome back...I've missed your e-mails and new tutorials. My comment about COPIC markers is this: If you haven't tried them, DON'T buy any other brand, thinking they will be just as good. They are the BEST! I literally have tried all types of markers, including stampin'up, etc. and I tried watercolor pencils, and all types of added mediums to get similar effects. I tried watercolors, too. In short, these markers are worth every penny. I buy a few at a time, based on whatever project I am working on. I hope to have a great collection in a year or so from now. I get about 2-3 a month. Anyway, love your blog and detailed examples.

One of my favorite things to do is to stamp and color an image with COPIC markers, then use a Versamark marker over the entire image, add clear embossing powder, and then heat set. When cool, brayer around/over the image, creating a sunset, or scarey halloween background. The ink won't stick to the image, and any excess can be wiped off.
Thanks again for all you do for us! Please enter me in your drawing, as these are colors I do not own!.... Love, ravishingred

Diane said...

I LOVE my Copics. I buy them just a few at a time, mostly the colors I use more often plus a darker and lighter shade near it. I don't buy them unless there is a sale at my local art store $$$. My favorite was the Christmas card I made last year. It had 4 winter chickadee birds in a pine tree. There was a colored image on the front of the stamp's wooden block. I was able to pretty much replicate it. It took forever to make 30 cards but it was worth it in the end. Blending takes a little practice but the trick is not to color too much before you blend. Thanks for the chance to win some more of these fabulous markers.

Once I finally got around to really using them and feeling comfortable with them, I had to start having more choices in colors....so then came the Sketches to fill in!!! There is nothing I've ever used that comes close to them, and from what I've learned from your blog over the last year, as well as some other blogs, I wouldn't be without them!!!
