World Cardmaking Day

Today is World Cardmaking Day , and so to kick of this day for papercrafters we are sponsoring a prize drawing. All you have to do is post a comment on today's post about either your favorite Copic product or what tutorials you would like to see me show more of.

You have just over a week to post. At midnight on Sunday the 12th I will randomly choose 3 winners for our prize packs. Each pack is worth over $75 and is a great way to kick off your holiday cardmaking. I have chosen colors that are great for the holiday season and I think you'll have fun with the Spica glitter pens, Colored and Black Multiliner SP's, and the nice assortment of Sketch markers.

Check out Debbie Olson's blog for more companies who are celebrating World Cardmaking day. Have fun making cards today!

In honor of World Cardmaking Day I made a card. For those of you who know me this may seem like a shock- Marianne is actually making a card (by hand, not arranged on a computer and mass printed). I know, I know, Marianne is crazy for trying to make a card, but we all should step out of our comfort zone sometimes.

This is the card I made for my daughter's first birthday last week. I used a lot of Copic stuff on it, though at first you probably can't tell.

The easy part to see is the butterfly. This is a stamp from Lockhart Stamp Co. stamped onto Neenah Classic Crest cardstock with Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I can't remember what colors I used, except I know the purple is BV04.

Next, the antennae and sentiment I wrote with a 0.05 Multiliner SP. These pens are so smooth and so useful. I also used it to touch up lines on the butterfly that were mis-stamped. See the little yellow pearl in the corner? That was white before I colored it with my Y15 marker. I got those from Ellen Hutson.

You can't see it, but I took a clear Spica Glitter pen and scribbled a little on the edges of the white paper and pink paper, so that it looks like the paper is glittery even though it's plain.

Then, the silk flowers were white when I got them from Imaginesence, but now they've been colored. The pink one was airbrushed with RV14 then I touched it with a marker to make the spots, the yellow one was just colored directly with Y15 and YR65, no airbrush. The buttons in the middle of each flower were also white, but I dabbed with the tip of my marker onto each one to give it the mottled look

Be sure that when you leave a comment you either sign in so I can find your e-mail address to notify you, or add your e-mail to your comment. This makes it much easier for me to find you without hunting you down (Sorry, this prize is open only to residents of the US and Canada. You can still leave me a comment if you are from another country, I just can't send you a prize).

Have fun making cards and come visit me today if you're in Savannah!

My colorless blender is my favorite--I use it on almost every card I make. I also love the blog, I've learned so much! thanks, Marianne!

My favorite Copic product is the blender pen. Anything that will erase ink when I color out of the lines has to be the best creation in the world. Thanks for the chance for some blog candy. Happy Cardmaking Day.

Oh wow! This would be a fabulous prize considering I do not own one Copic product yet - this would be a great start! My husband said to pick some stuff for my birthday and so I came to check out your blog for some help (highly recommended by many stampers!). I can't give you a favorite yet, but I'm sure I will love it all! Thanks for offering such a fab prize!

I love all of your tutorials and am just discovering the spica glitter pens.

Copic markers have changed my rubber stamp preference. Prior to getting hooked on Copics, I only chose stamps that I didn't need to color. Now, I look for outline stamps so I have something to color. They're sooooo awesome! I'm thinking about dabbing into airbrushing with Copics in the future...we'll see. Thanks for your great tutorials!

I love your tutorials, but my work is still so lacking. I don't know what I'm doing wrong! Maybe I'm too critical. Anyway, I especially like the ones where you focus on blending certain colors. I'm also pretty stumped about picking the right colors to blend together because the numbering system isn't consistent across every color family; i.e., there aren't matching numbers across the spectrum. What then? But thanks for all you do... your site is one I turn to often. I just hope someday you'll come to or near California so that I can attend your workshop in person!

I am a Copic newbie as the LSS I instruct for just brought them in. In fact, tonight we had Sherrie Siemens in tonight to teach us a little and I played the rest of the night with the small collection I have. I am looking forward to adding some more pens to my colour families so I can blend more. I am sharing your blog with the gang at work so we can all learn. thanks for taking the time.

Have fun in Savannah, I grew up there. Please eat some hush puppies for me!

As far as what tutorials I'd like to see... more grass and sky. I feel like they add SO much to our images, and I've still not perfected my airbrushing techniques.

Thanks.

Gotta say my favorite is the colorless blender. Such a perfectionist... I didn't like it when I accidently colored outside the lines when I was a little kid and I still don't now! The colorless blender has saved many a picture by allowing me to "erase" my boo-boos.

I don't have any copic markers yet. My favorite scrapbook store just got some in and I plan on getting a couple this week. I wonder if I could only start off with 3 what would be the best colors to start off with. Any suggestions?

Love your daughter's card. She will treasure it when she gets older.
I also love my Copic markers. I have a combination of the Sketch and Ciao markers, and I am slowly adding to the collection, as I save up enough to buy more. I am hoping to get some Spica glitter pens soon...maybe for Christmas.

I love the refills for the markers. I use mine so much--and it is wonderful to be able to refill them rather than have to buy a new one. Love the colors!

I am constantly amazed at all the different capacities that you can use the copic markers. I am just starting to acquire these, a couple at a time, but love the options they provide to my cards. Thanks for sharing all the ways you made use of the markers. Your card was beautiful.

I would like to learn about all the advantages of copic markers and how to look "professional". Email: cbee@inbox.com. thanks so much!

I love your card. I love how you free-handed the sentiment...fab!

I hated coloring images before I "met" Copics. Now I color lots of images and sometimes don't even make cards! I love adding a touch of Spica pens at the end.

Thanks for all the information you post on this blog. I am just trying to learn about Copics and get more into them. I would love to see some techniques on using clear, non-porous surfaces such as acrylics. Thanks so much!

I don't have any favourite copic product because I don't own any yet. I love the idea of being able to blend without causing the paper to pill, and I love the spectrum of colours, and that you can take away colour, and move the colour around, but I haven't had a chance to do any of this for myself yet.

I would love to see some more shading done with just one marker.

I left the states (to move to Germany, husband is active duty Air Force) right when the Copics were becoming popular and I opted not to get any just yet because I know I'd need someone to teach me how to use them right. Man I wish I had bought some. Now I have to order online but have no clue what to order first! It's so hard to decide which colors. Thanks for the chance to win!

Well since I only have the orginal copics, I'd have to say those are my favorite! Although I've heard a lot of people talk about the sketch ones (and all the color choices there are) so trying those would be AWESOME! Thanks for the chance to win this awesome prize package!

I have a question regarding the multiliner markers. It seems when I go to use them no ink comes out. The store where I bought them won't exchange markers. I don't know how full they were to begin with.

Great blog candy! I would like to see more on the basics of using copics. They are still scary for me!LOL Thanks for the chance to win.

SusieQ said...

Marianne - you're card is very nice! I love how you used the Multiliner to freehand the sentiment and the antennae.
In terms of what other tut's I'd love to look at, it would have to be how to use the principals that you have been giving us regarding shading and shadows in small areas. I love to use Stamping Bella stamps, and trying to achieve shading and shadowing in the small areas (e.g. face) is challenging - any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of your markers but I am especially attached to the Spicas!!!

Red is absolutely my favorite color. I enjoy being able to read all the techniques that you put on your blog. So very helpful, many thanks!
