World Cardmaking Day

Today is World Cardmaking Day , and so to kick of this day for papercrafters we are sponsoring a prize drawing. All you have to do is post a comment on today's post about either your favorite Copic product or what tutorials you would like to see me show more of.

You have just over a week to post. At midnight on Sunday the 12th I will randomly choose 3 winners for our prize packs. Each pack is worth over $75 and is a great way to kick off your holiday cardmaking. I have chosen colors that are great for the holiday season and I think you'll have fun with the Spica glitter pens, Colored and Black Multiliner SP's, and the nice assortment of Sketch markers.

Check out Debbie Olson's blog for more companies who are celebrating World Cardmaking day. Have fun making cards today!

In honor of World Cardmaking Day I made a card. For those of you who know me this may seem like a shock- Marianne is actually making a card (by hand, not arranged on a computer and mass printed). I know, I know, Marianne is crazy for trying to make a card, but we all should step out of our comfort zone sometimes.

This is the card I made for my daughter's first birthday last week. I used a lot of Copic stuff on it, though at first you probably can't tell.

The easy part to see is the butterfly. This is a stamp from Lockhart Stamp Co. stamped onto Neenah Classic Crest cardstock with Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I can't remember what colors I used, except I know the purple is BV04.

Next, the antennae and sentiment I wrote with a 0.05 Multiliner SP. These pens are so smooth and so useful. I also used it to touch up lines on the butterfly that were mis-stamped. See the little yellow pearl in the corner? That was white before I colored it with my Y15 marker. I got those from Ellen Hutson.

You can't see it, but I took a clear Spica Glitter pen and scribbled a little on the edges of the white paper and pink paper, so that it looks like the paper is glittery even though it's plain.

Then, the silk flowers were white when I got them from Imaginesence, but now they've been colored. The pink one was airbrushed with RV14 then I touched it with a marker to make the spots, the yellow one was just colored directly with Y15 and YR65, no airbrush. The buttons in the middle of each flower were also white, but I dabbed with the tip of my marker onto each one to give it the mottled look

Be sure that when you leave a comment you either sign in so I can find your e-mail address to notify you, or add your e-mail to your comment. This makes it much easier for me to find you without hunting you down (Sorry, this prize is open only to residents of the US and Canada. You can still leave me a comment if you are from another country, I just can't send you a prize).

Have fun making cards and come visit me today if you're in Savannah!

My favourite Copic product? I think are the spica glitter pens. Everytime I use one I'm always amazed at how nicely they flow.

I'm slowly learning how to use the copics I have and finding that I NEED a few more colors! I like my Sketch markers very well....I do wish they had a hard writing tip along with the brush tip instead of the chisel though. I wouldn't mind seeing something about the airbrushing. I had a set up to use with my old tria markers and am hoping that the holder will work with my sketch markers.

Copic markers are amazing to use, but the airbrush system is fabulous. It's great the way lace, buttons, etc. can be colored to match.

I'm still too scared to get into Copics, but I love the range of greys, which are great for shading. It just adds to much to simple stamped image!

I use the Copic Sketch markers because I can buy them locally and I LOVE them. I would love to see a skin color that isn't so "pinky peach". I've newly purchased a couple of the lightest colors and would love to see some more on blending. I'm having a heck of a time with that :) LOVE YOUR BLOG. Thanks for the chance to win!

I am new to the markers and totally love them! I have about a dozen ciao markers- mostly greens, browns right now and can not wait for my second order to arrive for more colors! I hated to use markers before these as the result was never good but these are super! i think you should come out with the perfect stamp ink pad for these - save us experimenting around!

My favorite Copic product would be ALL of the Ciao markers! :) I would like to see a close-up photo of what the medium round nib looks like in a Ciao marker compared to the other two nibs. (Like three markers lined up side by side.) I've seen the photo of the nib itself but I'm not able to grasp how it compares in size. :)

Thanks for a GREAT blog full of information!!

I keep seeing such gorgeous work using copics. I don't have any...I can't find them locally (we live in a very rural area), nor in the closest 'city' from here (a little over 2 hours). I'm afraid to spend the $$ on a set in case I can't make 'em work for me. :) The last class, in Seattle, just wasn't a good time for me so I'm hoping there will be another that I can make sometime SOON!

Cute card. Wish I was in Savannah with you. Do you ever do classes for non-shop owners? I've really been learning so much from your blog, but I tend to learn the best in a classroom setting. I love working with Copic markers! They're excellent for doing artwork, as well as different projects. Currently, I've been using the Sketch markers, which I really enjoy using, though I look forward to using different markers by Copic, such as the Ciao ones, and the like.
As for tutorials, maybe one on proper layering of the colors. As an artist, it's hard for me to find the proper layering of things (such as what should be the base color based on the lightness of the marker).
Thanks. :3

Well, my favorite are the sketch markers, because I haven't tried any other products yet! I recently got my first multi liner, but I haven't used it yet. I would like to see a listing of colors which are very similar. I have several pairs of different sketch markers which are very close in color to each other (at least to someone inexperienced in color theory like myself). I wasn't planning on selecting colors which are so similar to each other, but there you go. I figure that will extend the time I can use those colors before I need to get refills for one of them!

Now I'm looking for a coloring medium that will make my cards look as professional as yours :)
I would love to see more beginner projects and also tips on where you can buy these markers on the net. It would also be great to get a tip about where to start: is it better to buy one of each color, or 2-3 of the same color but in different shades etc.

Hmmm, what product is my fav....hard to say. The Spicas are really fun - especially the clear one. When I first purchased Copics I thought I'd use more "flower" colors but I've found myself building my Earth tone collection far more than any other color. Coloring animals is a blast! My non-marker fav is the clear Copic cases. I can keep my markers in # order and carry them around the house with me. Plus the holes in the case lid mean it never gets stuck when you put it on the bottom - very clever!

I'd like to see more info on hair and fur covered. But really almost anything you post is so easily understood and helpful I enjoy it all!

I would have to say that the Spica glitter pens are my favorite. Just love to add that bit of sparkle to everything!

I adore my Copics....
I love the colors... you can make them light and soft for a pastel look, and then they can be bold and bright my personal style that I tend to do more of.

but I really love that they are an investment that last.... some "things" that I have spent money on in the past works well, but when done, done and then is thrown out. My copics keep on, I refill and keep on.. I damaged a brush... replaced and keep on going. I love that!

I also love your blog, I have learned so much! NO other company has taught me the details of using their product! Great!

I never thought I would buy Copic Markers...till one day I forced myself to get some for coloring skin colors. THAT day was the begining of my LOVE for Copic! I have been working on adding to my marker collection -- hopefully some day I'll have all the colors :) Ahhhh....what a dream!! If I had to pick only 1 color of marker -- it would be E00 for coloring skin. It's what started me on this journey :) Thanks for all your wonderful tips and information on the blog. And what a treat for someone to win!!

I have recently starting to use the ciao markers and love the way that you can blend the colors. I will be adding more to my collection soon!

I have been writing down what color combos you use. I haven't bought any Copics yet and I don't want to make bad choices on a limited budget! I love all of your tutorials and am very glad that you are sharing your expertise with us!

I love the different types of markers offered from Copic! I especially love the Spica Glitter markers. It gives just the right amount of sparkle to my card projects. I would like to see a tutorial on how to custom mix your own colors in a marker. Thanks!

That's incredible...I will make the 560th comment. THAT is a lot of people. I love working with your tutorials but I'm someone limited as I purchase my pens only one or two at a time and am only at 30 or so. (I always need a different color other than one I own...thank goodness for blending.)
I would love to see more tutorials on flowers.

My favorite Copic product is the markers. I own both Sketch & Original, but I would say that I prefer the Sketch style. I love the broad range of colors & the numerous tequniques that can be created with them. Thanks for the chance!!

My favorite copic product is your blog. I have learned so much from you (and I've purchased so much too).

While I love, love, love my sketch markers, I'm enjoying the multiliners also. I can "tweak" an image that didn't stamp quite right, or maybe add a line here or there and it looks great.

I look forward to reading your blog. Thanks!

I am just discovering these wonderful markers and just found your blog. I am looking for basic tutorials on how to blend and mix colors (also what colors are the most useful to get). I am sure you probably have that on your site and I am going to be looking over your past tutorials in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Just catching up on my blog-reading. I loved your Palmetto sunset! I'm a transplant to SC, but I love Palmetto trees like a native! I just recently heard of Copic markers, so I'd love to see really basic instruction for using them on papercrafts!

I love the Spicas, but my favorite has to be my black Ciao. I can color with it, write with it, shade, handwrite a sentiment that looks stamped, etc. Very versatile marker.
